This is the number one question parents ask. Fearing that their kids will have nothing to do in high school, many parents get nervous about The Numeracy’s intensive acceleration.
But the reality is that there is plenty of post-calculus math that students do in high school. Highly competitive students often do calculus in 9th or 10th grade, and most reasonably competitive high schools have options beyond
For example, competitive high schools have courses in multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and/or differential equations.
Beyond those classes, math gets much more interesting. Advanced abstract math is reserved for only the most elite high schoolers. That level of math can be done through formal programs, the most prestigious of which is MIT’s PRIMES. This is a year-long math program run by MIT that replaces school math. Basically, you do PRIMES instead of math at school.
Other students do programs at local colleges, online programs at major universities, or instructor-guided independent studies at school.
Reaching that level of math does more than just improve your chances of getting into an Ivy League college. It helps you develop a kind of abstract, logical thinking that most people never even imagine.

No! A student does not have to be good at math before they start. They only need to want to be good at math. As long as a student wants to get better at math, The Numeracy is the right place. Some of our most successful students started out below grade level but ended up at the top of their class.
Your starting level doesn’t matter. At The Numeracy, you’ll learn so much that what you knew before is less than a drop in the bucket.

The Numeracy uses individual tracking. Each student works at their own pace. Thus, missing a class doesn’t matter. If you’re on the tenth problem at the end of one class, you’ll start there at your next class. Whether the class is the next day, the next week, or the next year doesn’t matter. You work at your own pace, and at your own schedule.

The two biggest differences between The Numeracy and other programs is our focus and our methodology.
Our focus is very different. The Numeracy is about getting ahead of the competition. Our program is optimized for ambitious students who want to get ahead of other ambitious students.
It’s common for after-school math programs to avoid going ahead, and instead focus on topics of minimal importance. At The Numeracy, we don’t do that. We work on the most important topics in the most efficient order. We try to get ahead as far as possible.
The second difference is our methodology. At The Numeracy, every student’s work is checked at the end of every problem—not at the end of a long worksheet. This allows us to continually adjust the program for each student, targeting exactly what the student needs. This precision translates into speed. Because we monitor and adjust each student’s program far more than any other program does, we work exactly on what each student needs in the most efficient way.

Yes. Math is cumulative. A student who understands calculus also knows precalculus, algebra, and arithmetic…as long as he is learning math in a real, rigorous way.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen in school. Schools often allow students to memorize a topic, suffer through the test, and then forget it. But at The Numeracy, we constantly review fundamentals, ensuring students are ready for both advanced and regular math.
